Three generations of the Chen family have built True Shines into one of Metro Vancouver's most trusted commercial cleaning operations. Here's how we got here, who's behind the keys, and exactly what we stand behind.

Fifty-seven years.
One Vancouver address.

In 1969, Walter Chen left a job as head custodian at a downtown Vancouver bank to start True Shines with one truck, one mop bucket, and a handshake promise: "If you ever find a corner we missed, call me directly. I'll come back and fix it myself."

That promise still lives in our 24-hour re-clean guarantee. His son David grew the company through the 1980s and 90s, adding contract commercial accounts and our first ISO-aligned procedures. His son James — our current CEO — pushed the business through ISO 9001 certification in 2014, GBAC STAR accreditation in 2019, and our photo inspection report system in 2022.

Today, True Shines operates 12 nightly crews across Metro Vancouver, holds 247 active contracts, and has never missed a payroll or an insurance certificate. We're still family-owned. We still answer our own phones. And yes, James still carries a set of keys for every new client.
